Staying nourished in Bali with a side of lychee martini

Island food can make great nourishing food, but don't forget a dose of a lychee martini...

I focus on balance in travel with nourishment of the mind, body and soul but with a side of a  great cocktails and I found some in Bali. It's easy to eat healthy foods that make you feel good in Bali, when you look in the right places.

Breakfast and brunch in Bali is easy. My main goal for this trip was to take at least 2 days of no real agenda other than laying by the pool and having my biggest decision be what I should eat for lunch and dinner. I spent most of my days in Seminyak Bali which is a beach resort area at the southern end of the island.  You will find great restaurants in this area as well as sunset views.  A few of my favorite local spots for breakfast and lunch were Spicy coconut and Sister fields.  At both of these quaint spots you will find healthy options including power foods like avocado toast, fruit smoothie bowls and kombucha. Presentation and service were spot on for both and the food does not disappoint.  Sister fields in particular made a lovely lychee martini and Bali does the lychee martini right.

If you find yourself in Ubud which is a must see while in Bali, I recommend the Pomegranate cafe.  The seating is all outdoors so be prepared to be hot in the Bali sun, but the ambience is an open seating terrace over looking a rice field.  They have healthy options including salads and yogurt parfaits and the red wine sangria was on point.  I would say the ambience is more note worthy than the food but if in the area, its worth checking out not to mention to get there you have to walk through the most precious road away from traffic passing yoga shops and peaceful, open rice fields.

Lets move to dinner in Bali. I visited over Thanksgiving and we met a lovely couple who visits Seminyak regularly.  They suggested The Breeze for dinner at the Samaya Hotel.  Oh how grateful I was to run into this couple who suggested this place. A few girlfriends of mine and I enjoyed an epic Indonesian meal with an epic ambience at the Breeze.  We were seated right on the ocean and the property was dimply lit with hundreds of tea lights, beautiful lanterns and water features throughout the property. It's slightly pricey and truly a romantic setting and atmosphere, but do not let that detour you from eating here alone or with friends. One of the most impressive aspects of dining here besides the good and ambience was the customer service who asked for our names upon arrival and proceeded to use them if they checked up on us. This was true costal dining at its finest and it was impossible to not relax the mind in a setting like this.

Hand-crafted cocktails at the W in Seminyak

We polished off our epic dinner with epic cocktails at the W Hotel.  We stayed at the Golden Tulip Devins and In order to get to the beach from the hotel, we had to walk through the beautiful grounds of the W hotel (which I also recemmend).  I did this so many times I think the W staff as well as myself were convinced I was staying at the W. The W has a drinks and appetizers bar area away from the main restaurant.  I suggest this area for a well made hand-crafted cocktail as the drink menu at this bar is different than the one at their restaurant and has a much larger selection.  My favorites were their well made espresso martini where you can choose from 5 different Balinese coffees and their cucumber martini which is served with dry ice and takes just as good as it looks.  It can be really difficult to find well made hand crafted cocktails while traveling but the W nailed it in my opinion.

Staying fit while in Bali with morning ocean runs

If you are staying in Seminyak, it is possible to take a early morning beach run. Early being the key word. It is HUMID and bring water and stay hydrated so it does not sneak up on you.  I began my runs starting at the beach access point from the W hotel but keep in mind depending on the tide the beach is broken up a few times but shallow paths of water you can't avoid so I recommend running barefoot or just accept you shoes and socks will get wet which is what I did.  During November, the beach was wide open with few people so getting a nice run in without dealing with obstacles of people was a piece of cake.

The Breeze - Great for dinner in a romantic setting on the water with epic sunsets.  Don't let the romantic setting throw you, its just as beautiful dining solo
Sister Fields - Great for breakfast and lunch - I recommend a side of the lychee martini
The Spicy Coconut - Great for breakfast and lunch. They take cash only.  Mango smoothie bowl and kombucha was my favorite.
The Pomegranate Cafe - In Ubud, lovely open outside seating overlooking a rice field
The W Hotel in Seminyak - Great for sunset views and amazing hand-crafted cocktails
Golden Tulip Devins Seminyak - This is where I stayed and is about a 10 minute walk from the beach and offers a nice, less crowded infinity pool.
The Potato Head -  Noteworthy & popular beachside bar and lounge with faboo cocktails
