Morning Anti-Inflammatory Ginger Elixir

There are numerous causes of inflammation in the body. Some of these can be food sensitivities and allergies, poor diet, antibiotic use, dysbiosis or an imbalance of bacteria in the gut and other viral or bacterial infections.

In a quest to rebalance my body and reduce inflammation, I have added a new habit to my morning routine. This consists of taking a shot of a home-made, powerful immune boosting anti-inflammatory elixir. The real superstar ingredient is cayenne pepper in this recipe. Cayenne pepper is known to act as a digestive aid, anti-flu and cold agent, speed up metabolism, reduce joint and back pain and studies show may also reduce the risk of cancer.

Backed up with other superstar ingredients like lemon juice, ginger and turmeric, this is not a bad way to start the day! The drink does have a kick so I tend to sip the shot slowly. Please note: serving size should not exceed one shot as too much cayenne pepper in one sitting can upset the stomach. 

Ingredients:

1 ginger stalk
2 tablespoons unsweetened lemon juice or fresh lemon
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/8 teaspoon turmeric

Method:

  • Add ginger to 1 1/2 cups of water and bring to a boil
  • Set aside to cool and save ginger stalk for other recipes or tea (We only need the ginger water)
  • Pour the ginger water into a glass container with a lid and add lemon juice, turmeric, and cayenne pepper
  • shake and refrigerate - take one shot per morning. Ginger elixir should last 5-7 days in the fridge.
